Useful information
Construction investigation documents for court
Types of documents, preparing a request and materials for commissioning an investigation.
Which document is needed
- An inspection or survey record documents the condition, signs observed and actions performed within the agreed scope.
- A specialist opinion contains an investigation conducted under a contract, its reasoning and conclusions on the assignment.
- A review examines the report under review and related materials.
- An information letter states the feasibility, conditions, cost and timeframe of a proposed investigation.
- A court-appointed expert report is prepared when an expert examination is ordered under the established procedural rules.
Preparing a request
- State your role in the case, contact details and the required outcome.
- Attach the court order, if available, and the proposed questions.
- Provide the case number, court and hearing date, if known.
- Describe the property, dispute, available materials and access restrictions.
- If applying through a representative, prepare evidence of their authority.
Delivery of materials and results
A representative or payer does not automatically become the recipient of the result. The recipient and their authority are agreed with the Client. A letter on the feasibility of an investigation is not a substantive conclusion; the result does not guarantee admission as evidence or a particular court decision.
Discuss an examination
